To qualify for the GI Bill program, you need to meet specific eligibility criteria

Here are the key requirements:

1. Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33):

• You may be eligible if you meet any of the following conditions:
• Active Duty Service: You served at least 90 days of aggregate active duty service after September 10, 2001.
• Discharge with Service-Connected Disability: If you were honorably discharged after 30 continuous days of service due to a service-connected disability, you qualify.
• Purple Heart Recipient: If you received a Purple Heart on or after September 11, 2001, and were honorably discharged, you are eligible.

2. Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) Programs:

• MGIB Active Duty (MGIB-AD):
• You can receive benefits through MGIB-AD if you:
• Served at least 2 years on active duty.
• Have an honorable discharge.
• Hold a high school diploma, GED, or 12 hours of college credit.
• Note: If you have only one period of service starting on or after August 1, 2011, and you begin receiving MGIB-AD payments, you may lose eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
• MGIB Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR):
• Eligible if you are a member of the Reserves, National Guard, or Selected Reserve.
• Requirements include a 6-year service obligation or being an officer in the Selected Reserve who agreed to serve 6 years in addition to the initial service obligation.

3. Total Months of Benefits:

• You may receive a maximum of 48 months of VA education benefits (excluding Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits). However, many applicants are eligible for 36 months.
